St. Edith Stein Day

Students at the gymnasium explored the world of exotic animals and discovered the beauty of biology and scientific research.

On October 16, 2025, St. Edith Stein Gymnasium held its annual St. Edith Stein Day, focused on the spiritual, personal, and educational development of students. The program included a variety of thematic sessions and lectures led by experts from several fields. Among the invited guests were a priest, a traveler, first-aid instructors, and a physiotherapist specializing in women’s health.

Part of the program was an experiential lecture featuring exotic animals, led by Igor Majláth and Viktória Majláthová. At the beginning of the lecture, the presenters introduced the EFFUSE-win project and highlighted opportunities for studying biology at the Faculty of Science of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice.

Following the introduction, a hands-on demonstration was held featuring several species of invertebrates and reptiles. Among the invertebrates presented were African snails of the genus Achatina, the world’s largest millipede, various species of stick insects, spiders, and a scorpion. Among the reptiles, students were introduced to a turtle, agamas, and several species of snakes.

The lecture was interactive and experiential—students had the opportunity to observe the animals up close and learn about their biology, behavior, adaptations, and the importance of nature conservation. The event was met with great interest and contributed to broadening the knowledge and experience of both students and teachers, supporting the development of scientific thinking and interest in zoology.
