Children with special needs experienced an unforgettable encounter with the world of living creatures.
On June 23, 2025, an interactive workshop was held at the Private Elementary School for Students with Autism on Juhoslovanská 2 in Košice, as part of the EFFUSE-win cross-border project with Ukraine. The event was specially prepared for the students of the school and offered them a memorable experience of the living natural world. More than 40 lower-grade and 20 upper-grade students took part.
The children were introduced to various animals that play important roles in science, research, and nature. They had the chance to see and touch cockroaches, stick insects, spiders, scorpions, a turtle, lizards, and snakes up close. Through direct contact and hands-on experience, they learned about the animals’ characteristics, importance, and fascinating features that are often not mentioned in textbooks.
The workshop was led by Dr. Igor Majláth, whose approach ensured that the children felt safe and were able to enjoy nature with all their senses. The event was part of the EFFUSE-win project activities aimed at popularizing science and strengthening children’s relationship with nature.
